RESEARCH EXPERIENCE FOR UNDERGRADUATES


Summer 2010

The Department of Mathematics at Central Michigan University will be hosting a National Science Foundation summer program to provide Research Experience for Undergraduates.

PROGRAM:

Eight students will be chosen to work with faculty members of the Mathematics Department. Professors Kahadawala Cooray, Sivaram Narayan, and Brad Safnuk will guide the student research.

TOPICS:

The topics to be studied will be in the areas of Geometry, Graph Theory, Matrix Theory, and Statistics.

DATES:

June 7 – July 31, 2010.

STIPENDS:

Each student will receive a stipend of $3500, a room in an apartment and meal allowance. Travel money to the REU site and to make presentations at conferences will be provided.

APPLICATIONS:

Students who are U.S. citizens or permanent residents and will be Undergraduates in Fall 2010 are eligible to apply. Women and Minorities are particularly encouraged to apply. Applicants should have completed a second course in Calculus and a course in Linear Algebra by May 2010.

Preference will be given to applications received by February 26, 2010
